100% Design Shanghai 2008: MU
by sabine7 / July 10, 2008

The natural and the manmade:

I enjoyed the booth of Shanghai-based German-born designer Jutta Friedrichs of MU, whose furnishings pair sleek lines with organic materials. She moved to the city three years ago to start the design division of Dutch outfit Xindao; I didn’t get a chance to ask if she still works there or if she’s designing her own line full-time. Regardless, I was struck by her Three Ripples table, with wood disks inlaid into a stone top, and her tufted-leather Bitter-Sweet sofa, whose low-slung wood base lends the look of a custom built-in. The little sapling sprouting through the booth’s floor was especially charming.
