1 PM: The green house
Caught up with Richard Hutten at his installation, Green House, located in the outdoor cafe. In anticipation of a full day of interviews, he traded in the flame-print Martin Margiela sweatshirt he was wearing at last night’s pasta dinner (“I’m burning up!” he explained) for a natty mauve-ish suit. Looking very dapper, he explained that the installation—a house-shaped metal frame covered in magnetic silicone leaves—is the same one he showed at Milan earlier this year. With one major difference: For the Shanghai installment, manufacturer Gispen/Lensvelt produced a special edition in gold and red. While I was marveling at how lifelike the leaves were, Richard yanked one off and gave it to me. “Don’t tell anyone,” he said. Secret’s safe with me.

Hutten’s magnetic silicone leaves also greeted visitors at reception.
