The Canada Vinyl Collection by Joel Yatscoff is a series of indoor/outdoor decals in the shape of provinces that depict icons relative to each place. The first release of three takes us from British Columbia’s west coast, through Alberta’s mountains to the Saskatchewan prairie, telling a story of provincial identity along the way. Home to some of Canda’s best weather and growing conditions, B.C. is well-known for its crops of all kinds. Thus, the pattern of the B.C. sticker is made up of fruit from the Okanagan Valley and a healthy marijuana leaf. The Alberta decal shows pride in the Albertan beef and oil industries. The Saskatchewan vinyl, a pattern of repeating pierogies and a stalk of wheat, honours the Eastern European settlers and the province’s role as Canada’s breadbasket. Canadian identity is always a preoccupation and Yatscoff’s vinyl uses internal and external icons to put together provincial identities based on these two perspectives. Shown above is British Columbia, after the jump are Alberta and Saskatchewan.
