MObi
by Harry / May 2, 2008

Kevin Fitzsimons has recognized my personal weakness for Airstreams and sent MoCo Loco his MObi project, a restoration and modernization of a 1978 Sovereign 31’ Airstream Land Yacht. "Designed for today’s wealthy traveler, MObi will encompass the latest in available smart technology, be completely green and loaded with creature comforts.".

This is completely badass, time to sell the house behind this trailer. Posh, well thought out and overall aesthetically optimized. Boutique hotel on wheels. Awesome!

Considering that it probably weighs in at 4000+ pounds and can't be towed by anything less than a huge gas-guzzling V8, I seriously doubt it will "be completely green" like they claim. Sweet polish job though.

Not only is it well thought out, but also well executed. And what could be more green than a sub 300 sf stainless steel house? Perhaps one without wheels. Perhaps there's one flaw in the green design. How do you get this thing to the grand canyon?

Well done. Looks like he had a good time designing it.

Ah I loved this post.

Jeff, I think we all need to stop pretending that there's anything green about the Mobi , apart from the couch cushions. You tow it to the Grand Canyon , preferably with a Range Rover. After a few Sundowners , orange will be your favourite colour.

dailydesignspot / May 4, 2008 at 11:22 AM / Flag

oops. make that a sub 300sf aluminum house.

pretty sweet trailer, very sleek and haven't the people complaining about the un-green-ness of towing it ever heard of bio-diesel thats how to get this baby to the grand canyon if thats where it needs to go.

Thanks now I know how I want to finish our 1970 Airstream - we were at a loss. It's beautiful!!!

That's truly beautiful. A step up from even the latest CCD interiors. I bet even Christopher Deam would tip his hat to you, and perhaps take inspiration for Airstream's future models!

Thanks for sharing,

Chris

Vintage Airstreams were towed behind cars of the period. Their brochure pictured a guy towing one with a bicycle. This Land Yacht could be towed by any modern SUV/Truck with a strong V6 or v8 (if they didn't weight down the interior too much).

I had a small one years ago, always wanted to find a 16" and setup an interior like this. This came out perfect.
