Fuorisalone refers to all the exhibitions that take place on sites away from the fairgrounds. While many of the satellite shows are located in Zona Tortona, others are spread out through Milan’ centre. We saw some new products at the first Charles and Marie pop-up shop that was constantly crammed. The champagne fountain shown above is a new design that allows a whole bottle of champagne to be shared evenly. Simply start pouring into the top glass and the rest will follow. Cheers! It was fun to see Tristan Zimmerman’s Phonophone iPod Speaker (larger than we thought), and a new version will soon be available in black. Council was showing a variety of new designs, including Arik Levy’s geo Low tables, Derek Chen’s Section and Mike & Maike’s Mute seating. Pieke Bergmans had some super Design Virus lighting, blobs that looked as though they were melting, and the Melted series of shelves. The Bloom My Buddy series by Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe were cute (no other word will do) vases for original flower displays. And we could not help but stand transfixed at the sight of Carlotta de Bevilacqua’s Tian Xia lighting at Artemide, even though it’s by no means new. Slowly changing colours have that effect.
