The key factor in the Maarten Baas exhibition in Milan was the space itself: a workshop. On display were classics from the Baas oeuvre, such as the Sculpt collection, Clay furniture, Hey Chair and Smoke, but the rough setting injected liveliness. Music blared and Baas peeps screenprinted cloth bags and dried them on the spot, adding to the aura of activity. Three limited edition Baas pieces, the Chankley Bore, in collaboration with Established & Sons, were on display, as well as a couple of pieces for Shanghai’s Contrasts Gallery and a set of commissioned Clay dining chairs for a London family.
