Although in its inaugural year, Radiant Dark was an important exhibition that took place last week in Toronto, alongside Come Up to My Room and IDS. Curated by MADE’s Shaun Moore and Julie Nicholson, Radiant Dark was a show that focused on themes of darkness and luxury, very interesting in light of the massive fire that destroyed several historic buildings in the very same block the day the show was meant to open. There were over 70 works from a variety of Canadian industrial designers, artists, architects and craftspeople in a hushed space that served as an excellent backdrop for a show that was thought provoking and visually compelling. The themes lent cohesion to the pieces and the flow of the show was very natural, from Molo’s curvy black paper walls to the repetition of black, white and gold, reflecting precisely the radiance and the darkness.

I work in the neighbourhood and I think this building burned down last week. Or at least it was next to a bunch of buildings that burnt down.
Is it true?
Radiant Dark is on the third floor of the Burroughes Building on Queen St. West. It is indeed on the block where the fire took place, practically next door, but this building is fine. In fact, the exhibition was meant to end on Feb 27, but is being held over through March 2 to give more people the chance to get down there. So, Adrian, hopefully you can get over to see it on your way home from work or on a break.
I loved the Slick lamp. All made of oil and gas parts....
Fantastic.
