As I got lost in going through MoCo 2007, I was struck by the variety of great jewellery that was featured. Jewellery really is the marriage of form and function, as wearable design has to be comfortable and practical as well as attractive. It was hard to narrow down my choices, but here are the pieces that combined art and design, pieces I'd be reluctant to hide away.
The combination of silicone (this is what really got me) and textiles in Tzuri Gueta’s jewellery stayed with me; I am a sucker for things that call out to be touched.
Kipul and Kishut by Hila Rawet were truly original designs. The stunning folded paper necklaces were my favorites. Talk about conversation pieces.
I loved Helmi Design jewellery by Niina Mahlberg because her glass bracelets are pieces of art. I'd be almost too scared to wear them, but, boy, would I ever be picking them up and handling them!
I fell for Sigrid Widmoser jewellery because these chunky statement pieces are like sculpture, yet also very simple and wearable.
Maud Traon’s rings were unlike any we’d ever seen before. Anything but sleek, these rings combined such a variety of materials in such a blatantly chunky way. The rings were almost aggressively narrative.
