Jay's Barn
furni's been busy. It's fitting that the company known for clocks would have at least one project in Switzerland. Nothing to do with clocks mind you, furni principal Mike Giles has a friend there, Jay, who recently bought a small mountainside barn (built in 1799!) and converted into a home. As Mike put it, Jay literally swept out the hay and started a 9-month conversion. Its now a 3-story, 1350 sq. ft house. furni supplied the wood finishing in the kitchen and some of the wood furniture. Interesting note, the kitchen floor tile is made of the original slate roof. More after the jump.

Jay's "making of" site is here, and furni's Flickr set is here.

My sister-in-law also built a house in Switzerland. What's interesting to me is how strict the building codes are. All the houses are required to have that same, "Swiss" exterior. I wonder if it start looking weird after a few hundred years.
OMG (sorry, I had to). That is beautiful. How did you go about buying the property? My wife and I have looked at barns/huts like these for years but have had trouble getting them (swiss authorities) to allow us to purchase them.
It looks gorgeous, and I will, from now on, be lurking, watching your progress.
Shoot me an e-mail with the info if you don't want to post online.
THANKS!
