Reconnoitering by New England ceramicist Megan Bogonovich was one of our favorite pieces at Fragiles. Quite representative of this designer’s penchant for mixing settings to create scenes that touch on the unusual and sometimes improbable, the hanging legs and tidy skirt of this piece are utterly charming. The sculptural work present at the Fragiles exhibition was quite amazing and ranged from the macabre to the whimsical. Toronto artist Wendy Walgate's colourful Ahimsa Trophy Yellow was on display at Fragiles (and we were thrilled to run into more of her work at the Ferrin Gallery at bridgeArtFair as well) and it was great to finally see the Geisha Model Ceramic Cell Phones by Christie Wright, who marries technology and handicraft.

question:
if design is to answer man's plight, do some of these projects represent a solution, or should they be considered artistic expressions not necessarily connected to solutions? How do they answer the basic questions of a designer? In what way do they connect to solving man's needs? Should they be catalogued as design or as artistic expressions?
These are great questions, Paula. Because this show took place during the Art Basel events, there is much more connection to the concept of artistic expression. This selection of work is more sculptural than the previous Fragiles post on tableware that offers more of a practical application. We would love to hear more opinions and points of view regarding these questions and the idea of connecting artistic expression to solutions.
Speaking as Megan Bogonovich's representative, her work represents much more of the fine art or artistic expression as paula has put forth above - than an a solution. However, with the Suburban Front lawn Proposal, I for one, would love to see them implemented in some of the newer neighborhoods which come to mind.
We are thrilled to see your recognition of Megan's work here at Mocoloco! Her latest works were part of our fifth anniversary exhibition here at artstreamstudios in New Hampshire and were very successfully received. She is an artist to watch!
