The Fragiles exhibition curated by design book publisher Die Gestalten Verlag was a well-organized event at Design Miami. Fragiles featured approximately 200 pieces made from porcelain or glass by a wide range of designers. Because of the nature of the material, porcelain is often used for tableware and a fine example is the work above by Mimi Joung. Imperial uses the fragile material for both the tableware and the cutlery that goes with it. Ceramic spoons are water jet cut from saucers and forks from cake plates, providing a modern edge to traditional bone china. The computer-generated images on Scott Rench's platters are glazed into the clay, not just printed on. More rules are reconsidered when Finding Cheska offers a variety of combinations for the table settings and Jason Miller re-jigs the usual porcelain embellishments.

Mimi Joung - Imperial.

Scott Rench - Everything Black Platter & Everything Blue Platter.

Finding Cheska - Create Your Own Typography: Combination CCC.

Jason Miller - Seconds.
