Black Crude
by sabine7 / November 27, 2007

From Design Glut: "When and if crude hits $100/barrel, Design Glut will produce 100 limited edition Crude Necklaces with a high gloss black surface finish. The pieces can be seen a symbol of mourning for the fossil fuel era. (…) Design Glut‘s aim with the limited-edition release is to create a historical marker, in hopes that one day, when you are charging your electric car with your children, you can say, 'I remember when crude hit $100.' " A sure sign of the times. The necklace will be available in brass or gold. Also available are necklaces, bracelets and rings in the regular finish.

Will they be using some sort of time travel device to send these back to 1864, 1871, and 1980? Oil has already hit $100 a barrel several times.

If adjusting for inflation, past oil prices have been higher than they are today. But it has never actually hit the $100 mark. From CNN, Nov. 21: "Light, sweet crude for January delivery rose as high as $99.29 a barrel in electronic trading after the New York Mercantile Exchange closed, breaking the previous intraday record of $98.62 set last week."
