COFFEE
Eat Eat | 403.532.1933 | 1325 9 Avenue SE

Inglewood on 9th Avenue is Calgary's most interesting neighborhood. It offers coffee, antiques, and designer furnishings for your home. My favorites: Eat Eat, Serendipity, and Buffalo cafe are some really choice spots for a coffee or handmade breakfast or lunch.
STEAK
Salt Lik | 403.537.1160 | 101 - 8 Avenue SW

It's no secret that Alberta has great beef. And if you like steaks - then why not the best in Calgary? Saltlik and Metropolitan Grill on Stephen Avenue (8th Ave) only list two. There are many other great spots to eat on Stephen Avenue with public art, and a refreshing walk that spans right though the downtown core.
CUPCAKES
CRAVE | 403.270.2728 | 1107 Kensington Road NW

That's right cupcakes. Not far from ACAD, Crave Cupcakes is in Kensington. Famous for having long lines ups and the best cupcakes in Calgary; Crave cupcakes are handmade and remarkably aesthetic. All of them look just as good as they taste - the signature "Crav-O-licios" is brown with blue vanilla butter cream icing.
SUSHI AND ARCHITECTURE
ZIPANG | 403.262.1888 | 1010 1 Avenue NE

Zipang Sushi is the best in Calgary, located in Bridgeland, just on the fringe of downtown. This is Calgary's premiere urban village development that offers a quiet neighborhood (not far from the zoo) with a great view of the international architecture that now replaces the former site of the historic Calgary General Hospital.
DRINKS
BUNGALOW | 403.209.5005 | 524 - 17 Ave SW

If it's the nightlife you're after, then I suggest Bungalow on the Red Mile (17th Avenue). A nice mix of Asian flavor and with an architectural feel of the 1950s. This is a great patio for hot summer days. Loaded with pubs, nightclubs, and great food along the strip, 17th Ave is party headquarters during the Calgary Stampede and Flames hockey game nights.

though i do agree that zipang sushi and crave cupcakes are both great -- i hate to say that the rest of this list stinks.
this is moco loco, not a restaurant guide ... what about the up&coming galleries, the fantastic (yet small) local industrial design scene, the modern interior and décor shops, the cities architectural gems??
'the ship and anchor pub' on 17th that meeting place of digerati and artist is also special; and has the best veggie rollups.
calgary is lovely for rollerskating + getting around by train.
what about ice skating at the olympic oval?
my husband trained there for the 2002 olympics.
it's very international + the people are soooo nice.
+ it was fun to hang out at the campus library to get online
Christopher, this series of places are personal faves in all categories, there's another series in the works for design faves.
Their public art is quite public, isn't it? No rollerskating around the corner of a building at high speed there.
I like all of those choices as I have been in most ... great idea have come out those places... Some how I believe a designer lifestyle is very much related to the bar, coffee shops, sushi... environment as choices of those places are very critical in getting you relax, socialize and talking about new project, signing new contract, ideas, inspiration...
