Bösendorfer Edge
by sabine7 / June 21, 2007

Edelweiss Industrial Design in Austria has some very sleek designs, particularly the Bösendorfer Edge piano and the Flamma cooking table. The piano’s music desk extends far out to the pianist and is covered in fabric to ensure sound permeability, while the spacing below the lid aids in the projection of the sound. Its legs are quite prominent, in keeping with its history as a table instrument and its lyre very modern, with enamelled black pedals. The Flamma cooking table (after the jump) is a black glass table with electromagnetic induction cookers under the glass. Cooking can take place amongst your guests, but the table is plain black when the cooking is over.

Genius Table: This table is brilliant design. Imagine having the best six people you know to a dinner party around this table. I appreciate a designer who knows how to create a piece that can be both the focus and the background all at once. Wow!

I'd love an Edge piano... if it needs a test subject, I'm your man.

I'd actually like to see a lot more done with the design of musical instruments. While some of the shape is very important for the consistency of sound, there is so much superfluous material to play with, and it seems that guitars have the most variations in this regard. I'd like to see some new banjo designs!
