Alessi recently presented the new Spring Collection, a rich oriental flavored collection, spiced up with tasty bits of cultural fusion. The Pasta Pot designed by multi starred French chef Alain Ducasse and designer Patrick Jouin proposes a completely new way of preparing pasta, by cooking the sauce and the dry pasta together. Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas designed the Colombina Collection, a sensual stainless steel cutlery set characterized by the unusual three prongs of the forks. Hani Rashid designed the Alessi Pens set of pencil, roller ball pen and boll-point pen. The Campana brothers widened the Blow-Up series with a magazine rack made of random steel rods welded together and presented a new series of aluminum wire products, the Nuvem Family, which meant a great engineering effort in preserving the artisanal and arbitrary flavour of the Campana style while keeping a reasonable price.
For the A di Alessi line, Stefanno Giovannoni and his long time collaborator Rumiko Takeda sign the irresistible Chin Family; with stylized oriental characters each of which represent a specific household function. The result is a fresh, joyful and refined set of objects I’d certainly like to have in my family.
And for the Officina Alessi line Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa designed the delicate Fruit Family tea set, the subtle organic shapes makes me think steel has never felt so soft before. GP
