Today we start the first of a series of interviews that have meaning as a theme. Mini interviews, two, three questions, with a specific object as the focus. Why? Well, as you can imagine, we speak to a lot of designers and see a lot of design, and although we're wary of trends, we do see something happening in the design world that, frankly, we personally find gratifying; object as message. Not just functionality, or functionality plus aesthetics, but all that plus meaning. It’s not new, Philippe Starck is famous for his objects with a message, and more subtly, and incisively, Tobias Wong has been doing the same successfully for a while now. What’s really new is just how many designers, young designers, that are embracing meaning and using it for fun and the not-so-fun. This was abundantly clear at the Come Up To My Room Show, where we asked the question “Is design the place for social and political commentary, and, fun?”. We're happy to report it is and that we, Sabine from Art MoCo, and I, will have the pleasure to show you in the weeks to come.
