I was at FROST last weekend in Edmonton, one of two annual IDEA group exhibitions, this one called Deck the Halls. Designers worldwide were asked to submit designs for skateboard decks and the final selection were produced by a local deck maker (who can also make them to order). The show was very well attended. People came to see, and bid on, more than 70 boards on display at the Latitude 53 gallery over three days. Closing reception featured live DJ and the silent auction. Entries from Europe, US, Iran, Australia, and beyond. After the jump, my five favorites... JGB
A custom FROST board giving a clean, cool, underground perspective.
A compelling twist to nature and over-foresting from a U.S. designer.
Graphics from Iran with a postmodern reference to Art Nouveau.
Surrealist imagery for the open-minded skater.
A politically charged grind zone for U.S. riders.
"Watch over me" provides the churchly approach to skate culture.
Some FROST boards in context.
The opening reception.
Thank you Shoko for the images!
