the irony is the waste of packaging and resources being used by the artist to make this statement.
This is a waste of materials and the energy it took to make them.
Hi! Pardon my impertinence, but I think that those who are saying that this is a waste are missing the point, here.
"Sachet Marketing" is going to be the next big thing for manufacturers of consumer goods who see their markets in developed countries stagnate.
Just think of emerging markets like India or Africa, where the average revenue is only a fraction of what it is in developed countries. If you are P&G or a Gillette, these markets represent the only growth opportunities left, and what's more, they do it at a time where their productivity has never been higher!
How do they do it? They enter these markets with sample-size products, say washing detergent. They sell these for a few cents and begin penetrating the markets. In Brasil, for example, Unilever sells "Ala", a detergent created specifically for "loads" of clothes washed by hands... in a river!
Do you think that there might be work in the future for smart industrial designers who can conceive sample-size packages?
Sure I believe there will be work for people creating and selling this kind of stuff, and yes they'll be made, made fun, made good, made in millions. But isn't the pun of making them to contain only fresh air the statement that you shouldn't be making so much stuff in the first place or at least think about it before you do? And if that is the idea behind this design, I am tempted to agree with anyone who believes it to be a waste of energy and resources. You can't just make a statement about something by making it even more useless than it already is, especially if you want to point out the danger of this uselessness.
Does someone want to explain to me what exactly this is? I assume it is merely a rendering of a potentially funny concept, and if so why is everyone getting so upset about it.
Oh my goodness folks.
