John Deer, Rabbit
by Greg / August 30, 2006

Through their line of rugs the designers at Permafrost design studio offer us an early glimpse of the Winter world of Norway. Their John Deer and Rabbit track rugs are thoughtful interpretations of the patterns created in fresh snow from wildlife, and human traffic. In addition, these fantastic pieces offer us "city folk" a nice breath of country into our urban dwellings. JGB

That's a damn good idea. So simple but so strong, full of poesy. I just check their website (permafrost.no), nice things and calm spirit from the North. Thanks for the link.

I agree, a simple but very effective idea.

Tire track looks too similar to a green baseball.

"Why do you have a green baseball on your floor?"

"No, it's a John Deere tire track."

"No, it's a green baseball."

Hi Wade:
Interesting point. However, to merely see this as a green baseball strips the design of all its poetry and narrative.

Greg,

The concept for the rugs is great. However, no matter how poetic a design's narrative may be, it is what it is. Had the designers chosen a different shape for their John Deere rug, the outcome may have been more abstract, which I belive was the desired intent.

Does the permafrost ever thaw out enough for baseball in Norway, the cradle of skiing?

I really do like the concept behind these pieces, but cannot get past the 'baseball' comparison that was made.

Instead of the perfect circle, i'd rather see a more obscure shape that made it look as though this rug was 'ripped' right out of the ground with the pattern(s) still intact. Really play up the idea and make it look more natural as opposed to mass produced.

As well a variation in thread height might help as well. The straight cut on both makes it look like a bath mat.

Other than that the concept is great.

Glad to see these pieces were so thought-provoking.
Thx for comments!
