Wip Chair
by / August 28, 2006

+ Via DESIGNWS.COM, designer Khodi Feiz has designed a foam chair for a project called NL-Lounge. Feiz investigated the possibilities of wire cutting to achieve a 3D form with only two 2D cuts in different directions. Five other Dutch designers: Roderick Vos, Richard Hutten, Satyendra Pakhalé, Kas Oosterhuis and Ilona Lénard were also asked to each design a suite of seating elements to jointly form a lounge landscape for NL-Lounge. Reminds us of Tom Dixon's foam chair for 100% East.

While the design is intriguing- I have to wonder if anyone has successfully sat in this chair. Given the structural properties of foam I would suspect it to break across the front edge almost immediately.

Have a look... there is some flexibility with white foam.

Ahhh.. thanks for the link.
Amazing what showing the chair with an actual user sitting in it can do to explain a design rather than just the standard "beauty shot"

The possibilities of producing limited run items with wire cut foam are certainly intriguing.
