Il Buddino
by / August 2, 2006

Il Buddino pudding pops go in the fridge, the freezer, the dishwasher but not in the oven. Use it like a normal pudding mold, dessert form, wetting it before pouring the warm pudding inside. Simply put it upside down in any glass, fill, let cool, then put in the fridge for at least 4 hours. From the folks who created the Bibliochaise, which we are told now comes in a new less costly form, slightly smaller but with more colorways.

This is borderline offensive with me. As a Buddhist I have to ask, why? I'd think it was just as disrespectiful to eat or munch or lick on any other religious icon.

I am a Buddhist as well and I find this fantastical. Buddhism isn't a religion- it's a philosophy/ way of life and we don't use icons like other people might. When I am eating my delicious pudding desert I will be extra happy with my beautiful non attatchment/non materialistic reminder that energy trancends all - thanks for such a great product.

By the way I know some Christians who have made cross chocolates-

I don't think it was created to offend, and for some reason, I don't know why, the thought never entered my mind that someone would be offended by it. I think it might be because it's a happy buddha, a familiar pop icon as well as being a relegious icon. Thanks Dee for answering my email. I got another email, among others, that provides additional insight; "I just noticed that comment regarding the Il Buddino post. I can understand that this might be offensive, so I thought I'd just let you know the play on words involved. In Italian il budino means pudding, so it is actually sort of amusing that they have made a frozen pudding pop mold riffing on Buddha. If you totally disregard the religious connection, that is. It is clever until you remember the sensitivity factor.". Thx S.

This is very disrespectful and very insensitive to say the least. For true Buddhists this is downright offensive. Someone said it was nice to have this and implied that a chocolate Cross was also acceptable. I don't think so. A chocolate Christ or a Christ on the Cross pudding seems totally wrong to me though I am not a Christian. Buddhism IS a philosophy but would it be right for this person who calls him/herself a Buddhist who made that comment to use a condom with the image of a religious leader and "be extra happy with the reminder that energy transcends all"? This is all I have to say and will say no more. May wisdom and peace dawn upon all!
