+ For the traveling surfer LifeStyleDesign has just created the Reef Surf Tent. "The tent takes architectural inspiration from the gaping mouth of a whale and provides the aesthetic appeal of second skin clothing.". It comes in two parts: an inflatable sleep pod (no rods) and an adjustable canopy (with rods) - both of which pack snugly into what doubles as an ice chest. More after the jump.

Pretty cool! It's amazing to see all these new shelter designs that emerge from one sigle idea: Richard Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome.
As we see these new variations from his initial concept, we should all be humbled from this man's life, character and legacy to humanity.
I love the concept, but, how well does the inflatable sleep pod hold? wont it be like sleeping in a beach ball? inflatable walls and windy nights dont go well together, I love the adjustable canopy, is this up for sale anywhere? id buy one in a heart beat.
Well, the CAD model appears cool but it also looks like a lot of gear to lug around when not inflated. Seems like inflatable walls aren't needed if it already has a pole structure over it which you could hang a screen enclosure from? An accidental deflation would be very inconvenient. I think its unpratical for *real* surfers who are scrapping by to take a trip to Baja, hide in a Pineapple field, etc. Reef should keep it simple by offering a board bag with an inflatable pillow.
great design and great idea! not only would it be great for surf trips where you camp out on the beaches, but also for surf events and contests where onlookers watch from the beach. Hopefully it protects against wind (might need screens on the side), seeing that most beach breezes come from the side...this would make for a great little shelter. I could really see this product taking off not only in the surf market, but also in other "action" sport areas. If built, this product will most likley generate much hype and exitement...becoming the new 'must have' among young buyers. Being a surfer and avid outdoors person myself, i would most definetly buy one.
