We just got an email informing us that the NYTimes Fortified weekend cabin designed by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects is not just one of the Record Houses 2006, it has also won the ‘Grand Award’ for a custom home, 3,500 square feet or less from Residential Architect magazine. It was chosen from more than 930 international entrants and will be featured in the May issue of the magazine. And there’s more, Delta Shelter designer Tom Kundig's first monograph will be released this fall; Tom Kundig: Houses presents 5 projects, including the Delta Shelter, illustrating their development from concept to completion.

I've always liked houses with big interior spaces and yet have small footprints. After all why not have the best of both worlds, right? This one is no exception. but then again with the type of sculptural and geological empathic approach Kundig has with his designs that's hardly a surprise.
