Our inaugural audio podcast has received some solid comments and suggestions:
- From jlee, “I really wished that some visual materials could have been provided. I was busy looking up everything that was mentioned in the podcast on the internet because not being able to see what was being talked about was frustrating for me…As far as future talk subjects go, one I thought of was ‘inspiration‘.”. (stay tuned)
- From Denisius, “Secondly, the first pod cast is a bit too long, at least for me. In my understanding a pod cast is something you can listen during the brake of 10—15 minutes… And one more aspect is the file size: 28.1 Mb takes time to download even with a high speed connection.”.
- From Joshua, “2. Opening Music! This music wasn't at all appropriate. Fashion show ‘house’ is really dated and overused, and if we're talking modern/contemporary, perhaps it would be best to find something a little more 'hip'. Perhaps have a contest to have someone compose an original opening specifically for the Podcast. It should be memorable, not generic”. (Ouch!)
All excellent points, thank you. There’s still time to comment, we want to know what you think of the podcast, how can we improve it? What subjects or people you think we should be talking to? One lucky commenter, chosen for the best suggestion(s), will receive a copy of the new Phaidon Design Classics book. Comments submitted by no later than tonight, May 2 at midnite EST, will be eligible.

Very brave 1st attempt at a podcast for a topic that relies heavily upon visuals. Parts were successful, especially if you are into your design and you could picture the objects being talked about. It would be nice to have heard more references especially to the manufacturers of the objects so that they could then be looked up at leisure. Also I think it would be fun to get some debates going as podcasts, on current design issues, etc. One last thing - because the interview was done over the telephone it was sometimes quite difficult to make out exactly what was being said. But very good effort and i'm sure it can only get better!
2 pretty obvious ones.
1- you need a graphical button on the side bar in plain view on top that indicates your podcast. right now you can't tell there is a podcast unless you scroll through the posts. the small button on the sidebar should allow people to automatically suscribe and listen
2- you need to set up a feed to your podcast. you can go to feedburner.com and set it up. you should also go to itunes and submit your podcast so it's available in their directory.
