Fuori 2006: Corian, Z.Island
by / April 19, 2006

Zaha Hadid, known for her architectural projects, created a futuristic kitchen out of DuPont Corian for Milan Design Week. The Z.Island unit is a "sensory- responsive kitchen environment" featuring multimedia equipment, sound actuators and LEDs that enable users to surf the internet, listen to music or create a particular ambience by means of a centralized touch-control panel. The installation included two free-standing island units, one devoted to functions associated with “fire” (above left) in the kitchen and the other with those functions associated with “water” (above right), a wall modular cabinet system providing space for storage and appliances, and a wall cladding system incorporating special equipment with advanced sound and light diffusion capabilities.
