Finland is a Nordic country with similar weather and terrain as Canada. I've often wondered what we could learn here in Canada from studying the culture and traditions of other Nordic countries (besides heated car seats and heated rear view side mirrors). Small Houses in Finland might show us us what contemporary design, sustainable housing should look like in Northern climes. The book features 29 houses constructed over the last 25 years. They're all individually designed for single families and are situated in different environments ranging from the city to the countryside and the seashore inland. Author/architect Esa Piironen, himself a designer of small houses, chose the houses shown in this book. Hardcover, 128 pages, $65 at Stout Books (and not available at Amazon).
