Urbana Design was founded by Derek Chen in 2001. His Ultralight coffee table and Wood vases are a nice contrast to the somewhat un-traditional materials that are dominating the market right now. When asked about the concepts behind the pieces Chen says, "I believe that an ojbect needs to have something natural to relate to human beings at a fundamental level. No matter how much we think we want shiny, plastic blobs, I think a hint of something familiar and natural helps us relate subconsciously to an object.". SMK
