Iannone Sanderson are known for designing tables and benches using rough and smooth lumber to form graphic constrasts on surfaces. The 'Mod' coffee table evolved from that concept. "We wanted to use green/recyclable materials and have a contrast between a very organic material and a man-made one," says Michael Iannone, half of Iannone Sanderson. For Mod they used Kirei board, made from reclaimed stalks of the Sorghum plant. The discarded stalks are bonded into a sheet with formaldehyde-free adhesives. The result is a textured material that looks like plant cells. SMK
