Arihiro Miyake opened his studio in Helsinki, Finland in 2004. Raised in Japan and making the move to Finland at age 25 gave him an understanding of the necessity of "having a global and unique vision towards design". With an emphasis on materials and technologies, Studio Arihiro Miyake focuses on furniture, product and space design. My favorite piece is the '1789' cupboard, which is a cupboard that has a circuit sliding system allowing each one of the doors to open in both vertical and horizontal directions. SMK
