Resourcefulness can go a long way on a small DIY budget. That's what Good House, Cheap House tries to prove on it's cross-country tour of more than 20 contemporary "inspired homes". Maximizing a smaller space is the main theme of the book, followed by inventive use of inexpensive materials. A tile backsplash turns into a slate backsplash when "we discovered acres of recycled chalkboards", a "fancy German faucet" and sink are found at a local recycling center. As the author states, good design can happen even when there's no money for extravagance. The proof is in the book. Hardcover, 192 pages, abundantly illustrated, due in October 2005, $16.47 at Amazon. Thanks Peter!
