40 women designers from 15 countries.
I haven't seen this book, but I'm intrigued. Per the blurb, "The big design surveys of the past few years tend to have two things in common: a lot of creative design and very few women designers.". I agree. Author Julie Müller Stahl is a headhunter for the design industry. She chose these designers because their work "breaks ground in fabrication, material, or concept.". For example, designer Nicolette Brunklaus' "Blonde curtains" is silk imprinted with a digital image of hair, Anette Hermann's "Glory light blanket" is made of clear silicone and optical fiber and Marre Moerel's "Barnacle wall tiles and towel hooks" look like bulbous coral growths. Biomimicry, one of my favorites. The designs include furniture, ceramics, glassware, lighting, and textiles. In addition, each designer is featured with five to 10 examples of her work, biographical information, and a personal statement that summarizes her approach. Hardcover, 195 pages, 250 color images, $23.07 at Amazon.
