How to build what you want within your budget book.
From Taunton Press, a book authored by architect Duo Dickinson that strives to strike a balance between "budget friendly mediocrity" and "unaffordable fantasy". Either way, until this current real estate bubble pops, it will almost always be more expensive than you expect (or can really afford). I find this book appealing because it does what I like most about Taunton books. Architecturally, it shows what can be done when you stretch the vernacular, when you take traditional architectural styles in new and different directions. The New Englander on the cover is a good example. This is not like anything you'd see on the "Cape". The book has 20 examples of homes like this one. However, please note that stylistically the book is mostly Craftsman/Classic/Contemporary, not Modern, especially the interiors. Hardcover, 208 pages, lots of color photos & drawings, $23.77 at Amazon.
