Barnes House
by Admin1 / February 15, 2004

Vancouver Island home by Patkau Architects. The Barnes House is located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland. Per the Patkau Architects website, “the Barnes house represents the most current expression of our architectural investigation… the search for the particular”. The house is unique in that it serves as a “landscape focusing device”, a kind of frame for the rock, trees and ocean – and it works. Made with a concrete foundation, wood framing, steel elements including a 12-foot canopy and stucco cladding.
